Johnson calls out Titans' teammates

In losing by a combined 72-23 in their first two games, the Titans have shown both an inability to stop the run or to gain yards on the ground. It was another long day for Titans running back Chris Johnson, who gained only 17 yards on eight carries against the Chargers in a 38-10 loss on Sunday. He has 21 rushing yards on 19 carries through the first two games. "The run game ain't working," Johnson said. "We just aren't executing the plays. I don't know why we're not." Johnson expressed more frustration after Sunday's loss than he did after the season-opening loss to the Patriots. ... "People need to step up and do their job," Johnson said. "They don't need to let people beat them. It don't matter who the opposing defense is." (The Tennessean) Comment

Howard wanted to be loved

After one very public departure later, Dwight Howard finds it hard not to think about some lessons learned through LeBron James' decision. "That's one of the lessons that I learned, you know. I can't make everybody happy," Howard told [ESPN]. ... [It] was a tug of war between my feelings and the fans and everybody else and their feelings and what happened to LeBron. And I saw him -- everybody hated him for leaving Cleveland and what he did," Howard said of [James'] free-agent move from the Cleveland Cavaliers. .. "I never wanted anybody to hate me, you know. I wanted everybody to love me, you know, like me, for sticking around and doing what they wanted me to do. And making everybody else happy. And that was a valuable lesson for me, you know. Will Rockies trade Tulo?

The clock is ticking for Troy Tulowitzki, who just may run out of season before he's able to return at 100 percent -- but another possibility looms. There are already those on Twitter clamoring for the Rockies to trade Tulo, using him to address other needs. MLB Network's Harold Reynolds advanced the notion. There's no indication that the organization is willing to explore that path. ... A more interesting question is whether Tulo would consider switching positions given the reality of how this season has played out. Tulo has won back-to-back Gold Gloves, and his strong cameo notwithstanding, Josh Rutledge lacks Tulo's range. But the Rockies can't contend without their cleanup hitter in the lineup, his absence impacting the defense and Carlos Gonzalez's ability to create more havoc. Tulo's idol, Cal Ripken, moved to third base. (The Denver Post) Comment
